A majority of car accidents happen within the first 10 minutes of a person leaving their home. With such a short distance covered in this time, it is heartbreaking that so many people endure the pain and damage of an auto accident that has the ability to change their life.

At Westphal Law Group, we do our absolute best to provide our clients with the justice that they deserve. Between the time spent in the hospital, the hours of therapy or surgery, and the damage that’s done, we know that there are so many different types of settlement that can be fought for, and we intend to win it.

Though we are always willing to fight the good fight, it’s absolutely crucial that the community of San Bernardino understand what causes are leading to accident. Primarily so that they can be avoided when each of our precious citizens gets behind the wheel.

Distractions

Regardless of age or skill level, distractions are one of the biggest factors that need to be accounted for in the car. From the radio and cell phones to passenger drivers and scenery, one of the main reasons that car accidents occur is because of distractions.

The unfortunate part of this is that these types of accidents are self-inflicted because we, all to often, give into the distractions that are calling out to us. The best way to minimize the chances of them happening while we’re in the car is to recognize them, and then shut them off entirely. Whether it’s leaving your phone in your purse or telling passengers that they need to quiet down in order for you to focus, recognize what it is that is making the act of driving difficult, and find a way to manage it.

Speeding

If you haven’t received a speeding ticket then you’re doing something right. While speeding tickets and getting pulled over seems excessive and annoying, there is a good reason behind the speed limits of various locations.

Unfortunately, at any given moment, there is a driver that is going 10, 20, 30 miles over the speed limit. Going a speed that is so drastically different than the average limit is not only dangerous, it is the speed that is capable of killing. The faster that you’re driving, the longer it will take for your reaction to kick in. That means that if a distraction or issue comes across that requires an immediate reaction happens, it will take longer for the result you’re hoping to create to happen, which can lead to some serious injuries, irreparable damages, and in the worst case scenario, death.

Rather than worry about how late you’ll be or how long it will take you to get to your final destination, pump the breaks. Leave a little bit early. The damage of speeding is not a joke and if you’re looking to avoid an accident, then it’s time to slow down.

The causes that we mentioned above are only a few of the reasons that car accidents happen. We will be covering even more of these reasons in our blog that will be coming in the next couple of weeks, so make sure to keep an eye out for that so that you can be aware of these additional causes that are the main causes of car accidents.
